Mitchell S. Tatum, D.D.S.

Dr. Mitch Tatum is a native of Nashville, TN. He has many fond memories of his hometown, especially playing football for the Ezell Harding Christian School Eagles and working at Opryland and the Grand Ole Opry as a teenager.

Dr. Tatum’s interest in dentistry began while majoring in chemistry at David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN where he earned his B.A. in 1990.  He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Tennessee at Memphis in 1995.  Upon graduating, he was an associate dentist until the opportunity arose for him to purchase the dental practice of Dr. Larry Puckett in Smithville, TN.  Dr. Puckett’s practice had been a thriving part of the Smithville community since 1962. 

Dr. Tatum has been a practicing general dentist since 1995, and has been in practice in Smithville since 2000.  He enjoys all aspects of dentistry, especially building long-term relationships with his patients.  

Dr. Tatum and his staff pride themselves on maintaining the welcoming and caring environment that DeKalb Dental Center is known for, while also providing their patients with state of the art dental technology.  In a continued effort to provide the most advanced dental care to his patients, Dr. Tatum built a new dental facility in 2016.  Dr. Tatum continuously furthers his dental education and expands his areas of expertise.  He is an associate fellow of the Academy of General Practitioner Orthodontics as well as a certified oral sleep appliance provider for patients with obstructive sleep disorder, also known as sleep apnea. His expertise also extends to performing more than 2000 CEREC procedures as well as becoming a credentialed dental implant provider.  Dr. Tatum is honored to be able to provide comprehensive “big city dentistry” from the convenience of our small town dental facility.

Dr. Tatum is  a member of the ADA, TDA, Middle Tennessee Society of Advanced Dentistry and the Fourth District Dental Society where he served as a delegate for six years. 

Dr. Tatum and his wife Gina have been married since 1993, and they have three grown sons.  They enjoy spending time on Center Hill Lake and following their beloved UT Vols.
